Wednesday has seen a strong Finnish presence at the Olympics, when Kerttu Niskanen and Krista Pärmäkoski mixed Iivo Niskanen and Joni Mäki struggled in a pair of prints. In addition to this, the program included a women’s biathlon message as well as women’s and men’s hockey.

Niskanen and Pärmäkoski skied fourth in the women’s final, which was won by the Germans. Niskanen and Mäki, on the other hand, took the Olympic silver, losing to Norway and leaving Russia behind.

Internet operators tell Iltalehti that internet use was significantly busier than normal on Wednesday morning. This shows that the Finns gathered at the screens despite the mundane morning.

DNA’s Mobile Business Director Cedric Kamtsan says that parisprint was even more interested in Iivo Niskanen ‘s gold skiing based on mobile data.

– Based on DNA’s mobile data, Finns have once again been interested in Olympic skiing. In addition to television, people clearly watch skiing from their mobile devices. Most recently, during Iivo Niskanen’s golden skiing, DNA’s mobile data traffic grew by about 50 percent, and now there was even more growth. Traffic has been busier than usual throughout the morning, and traffic increased by more than 60 percent during the cross-country skiing final, Kamtsan says.

Elisa reports a large increase in mobile traffic on its network compared to “normal” Wednesday.

– Today’s skiing caused an increase of about 80 percent in mobile traffic on Elisa’s network compared to the corresponding period a couple of weeks ago, Elisa’s Head of Department Tiina Höckert says.

– Last week, for example, the use of the network has been higher than average, for example. The impact of the Olympic Games can be seen in the use of the network, but clearly these Finns’ favorite sports cause a special spike. Compared to last Friday, today’s usage was about the same.

Telia reports that the pair prints did not collect as much traffic on Telia’s network as Iivo Niskanen’s gold skiing, although traffic increased compared to normal.

– Skiing has really interested Finns, you can clearly see it from the amount of online traffic. However, today’s pair prints did not reach the level of Iivo’s gold skiing on Friday, when the increase in traffic was tens of percent, Telia’s Director of Networks Sami Siiki says.

– The previous really big jump in traffic volume was seen in March 2020, when Sanna Marin held a briefing on the corona situation. Now, at the time of skiing, that corona peak has been exceeded, and traffic in skiing also comes mainly from Yle Areena. Could it be said that the return to normal is also reflected in traffic volumes, as ski traffic now took first place off the corona news, Siiki ponders.
