Fire in Hotel Het Witte Veen
The fire in Hotel Het Witte Veen started at the end of Saturday afternoon, April 23. Flames shot from the roof, and clouds of smoke could be seen for miles around. It took firefighters 3.5 hours to get the fire under control. Corps from Zweeloo, Schoonoord, Hoogeveen, Zwinderen and Westerbork came to extinguish the fire. Staff and guests were evacuated, the latter group mainly included visitors to the Superbike World Championship in Assen.
