Open Vld Waregem leaves fraction N-VA/Open Vld

In concrete terms, this means that Open Vld municipal councilors Guy Van den Eynde and Maxim Laporte will sit in the municipal council as an independent group after the summer recess at the next municipal council on 5 September. In October 2024, voters will have the opportunity to choose their own local liberal story in Waregem.

Department chairman Evy Vandemaele: “During our monthly meeting yesterday, the department board unanimously decided to leave the joint N-VA/Open Vld group. With this we want to give the local liberal story in Waregem every chance. We will soon go our own way, but this will not change our good relationship with the municipal councilors and the Waregemse department of N-VA. On behalf of our department, I am grateful to them for their commitment and trust over the past few years.”

Difference in vision

Municipal councilor Maxim Laporte: “I have always worked hard in this group. But in recent months, the difference in vision for the future has become apparent on several occasions. That is why we have made the decision to go our own way. But our mission remains unchanged, namely critical and constructive opposition.”

Vice-chairman of the group Guy Van den Eynde: “On behalf of Maxim and myself, I would like to thank all members of the group for the positive and constructive cooperation during 4.5 years of this legislature.”

Delphine Cloet will continue to sit on the Special Committee of the Social Services as a representative for Open Vld.
