"Open the doors of the girls’ schools!": Afghan women on the streets for the right to education

In the Afghan capital, Kabul, some 30 people, mostly women, protested this morning at the Taliban’s Ministry of Education. The reason for this is the group’s sudden decision to ban education for girls over the age of 12 in the country, despite previous promises not to do so. The fact that the decision was made during the first day of school after seven months made it extra painful for many Afghan students.
