Oostveld in shock after dramatic hunting accident of village butcher
So the new year has started dramatically in Oostveld, a hamlet near Oedelem. There the village butcher died of an unfortunate gunshot wound.
People still came to lay flowers at the scene of the accident today. Butcher Rik was an avid hunter. But yesterday it went wrong.
“Accidentally Shot”
The man’s weapon went off accidentally, the prosecutor’s office has determined. A sad accident with a fatal outcome. The entire community is shocked.
“That has indeed hit like a bomb,” says Rony Van Parys of Game Management Unit Drie Koningen.
“That man was a very beloved man. He also always took safety into account. But it can always go wrong. Safety is of course a priority. But we are all human beings. And routine is very dangerous.”
