Onstwedder Boys misses the title

No championship for Onstwedder Boys in the fourth division D on Saturday. The team of the departing trainer Guus Zantinga won with a korfball result 10-3 against low flyer NWVV. It wasn’t enough to keep competitor RWF off the title.

Leader Red White Frieschepalen did not make a mistake at Mussel (0-3). The Frisians therefore took off with the championship on the last matchday. Onstwedder Boys can still promote, because the fourth division team can compete in two weeks against a winner from the first round of the playoffs between a third and a fourth division team. On Saturday afternoon, it was not yet entirely clear from which game Onstwedder Boys’ next opponent should come.

NWVV can still survive by first winning at home against Tiendeveen, the number four and winner of the second period from the fifth class G. With a win, NWVV will play a duel on neutral ground against Corenos, the number thirteen from the fourth class C .

It took almost half an hour before the shooting fest in Nieuw-Weerdinge started. Harm Visser broke the spell for the guests in the absence of the duo Gerko Scheper (knee injury) and Anne Wilzing (ankle injury). Visser had a taste for this, because he then hit the bullseye six more times. ,,I have never even scored a hat-trick in a competition. Yes, in the youth, but not among the seniors”, the top scorer reported, bewildered, with the ball in his hands to receive after more than three hits. Getting the ball for his performance fell through after all. ,,You have to hand it in, because we are not that rich”, reported NWVV coach Johan Hollen, who conceded just under thirty goals in two weekends with his two clubs. ,,Bruce Springsteen gave me more fun in the Arena on Thursday evening”, music lover Hollen said afterwards.

After half an hour, the standings at Mussel-RWF came through. ,,0-2”, an Onstwedder supporter reported on the line. ,,But the miracle is not finished yet!” The miracle of Mussel unfortunately did not materialize for the Onstwedders. The guests continued to score after the break, with Visser as an extra attacker. The best goal, however, came from NWVV player Peter van Elten, who surprisingly shot the ball over goalkeeper Rein Koudstaal after the 1-10 from the kick-off. The final agreement was also for the home club with an extra goal. Few people cared after the extremely sporting match in sunny Nieuw-Weerdinge.

,,We didn’t lose the title today, but in four consecutive matches in the end of the competition where we lost seven points. RWF is the rightful champion and now we just have to do the playoffs”, concluded trainer Zantinga van Onstwedder Boys.
