Onstwedder Boys convincingly qualifies for the final after competition

After the 4-2 victory over HSC, Onstwedder Boys is one victory away from a renewed introduction to the third division. SJS is the opponent of the team of trainer Guus Zantinga.

,,This is nice and rightly so, but we are only halfway”, Zantinga reacted immediately after the deserved victory over HSC. “We don’t have anything yet. It has to happen on Saturday.” Then on neutral ground SJS, which won against FC Assen after penalties, is the opponent in the final of the playoffs for a place in the third division.

Onstwedder Boys has had to do without two key players for a few weeks now, Gerko Scheper and Anne Wilzing. But even without their scoring and creative ability, Onstwedder Boys was the parent.

After five minutes, Sven Jaegers made it 1-0 with a header. HSC was having a hard time. It was gross in ball loss and hardly saw a ball reach the vanguard players. Until Onstwedder Boys-back Nick Wagenaar made a mistake.

He played a ball wide, right into the feet of the most dangerous HSC player Dwight Esajas. The winger then had no trouble passing keeper Rein Koudstaal. Less than ten minutes after the goal, Wagenaar more than made up for his mistake.

goalscorer

Sem Nieuwenhuis played the ball on the right to Wagenaar, who laid the ball ready for Jarno Sterenborg. Less than a minute after the 2-1, it was already 3-1 and Sterenborg was the goal scorer again.

He gratefully took advantage when HSC goalkeeper Espen Kalk shot the ball straight into his feet. This blow hit the guests hard. Which really only became dangerous when Esajas was brought into position on the right flank. Luc Nieuwenhuis had his hands more than full with the fast striker.

All good intentions of HSC to turn the game around in the second half, could soon be thrown in the trash. Sem Nieuwenhuis lashed out devastatingly and finally closed the game with 4-1.

HSC trainer Henk Veenhof still mixed up his team, sent more people forward, but it did not help. Both Sterenborg and Sem Nieuwenhuis could have hurt HSC even more, but failed to increase the score several times.

‘Could and should have scored more often’

Zantinga: ,,We could and perhaps should have scored more often. That had no consequences this time, only it could have been difficult after they came to 4-2.” But that didn’t happen. Goalkeeper Koudstaal had all the time in the world every time he had the ball and thus took the pace out of the game.

While HSC makes it even easier for the home team by pumping long high balls from the back into the penalty area of the hosts. Only there was the strong central duo, Marcel Paans and Jaegers, who simply removed everything. As a result, it never became exciting in the last minutes.
