In 1960, an era of garbage collection came to an end in Schagen. The old garbage truck is being exchanged for a new one and changes are also on the way at the landfill site on Halerweg. In 1960, the smoldering and smelly rubbish dump did not quite meet the requirements of the time.
Especially because of the farewell to the old garbage truck, the round of Schagen, as the garbage collectors drove it for decades, has been recorded on film. Unique images of a garbage truck that can be driven from the outside while walking, a garbage man for whom there is only room in the loading platform and sometimes even the contents of the toilet that have to be taken along.
This series shows what life in our province used to be like. Everyday life and special events have been recorded by amateur videographers. The historical images have been collected in recent years by the Alkmaar Regional Archives and mostly come from private property. Some images are unique and have never been seen before.
