In the 1960s, the funfair was incredibly popular. “You just had to have been there,” says enthusiast and expert Jan Boots in this episode of Ons Dorp. The attractions became bigger and more spectacular. For example, in the early 1960s, the roller coaster came to Alkmaar for the first time. And every year a new attraction was added that went higher or faster than the previous one.
This series shows what life used to be like in our province. Everyday life and special events have been recorded by amateur film-makers. The historical images have been collected in recent years by the Regional Archive Alkmaar and mostly come from private property. Some statues are unique and have never been seen before.
