“Only the great Grönemeyer can sing my hit”

The message catches the eye, his song should be catchy soon…

More than 10,000 posters are currently distributed in Berlin – at the zoo, on the Prenzlauer Promenade, but also in front of the Red City Hall. The short text with a clear announcement: “Herbert Grönemeyer, I have your next hit! please get in touch LG, Roy.” There’s an email address for that.

Behind the message is the Israeli artist Roy Alfia alias Royal Fia (43) from Tel Aviv, who came to Berlin eight years ago. He produces jingles for podcast and composes many songs.

“I wrote a very powerful and emotional ballad,” says Alfia to the BZ “I think Herbert Grönemeyer is the only one who can convey this song credibly. I’ve been a big fan of his since his song ‘Der Weg’.”

He began writing his song after his last visit to Israel in spring 2020, when the corona pandemic was just starting. He completed it after a trip to the island of Rügen. In his home studio in Schoeneberg Roy Alfia recorded a demo version and sent it to Grönemeyer’s record company. There was no reaction.

“When I was walking with my husband, I suddenly had the idea for the posters,” he says. Alfia wrote a concise text, had it printed and hung in several counties by a small business. “Many Berliners have already seen this poster and asked me if Grönemeyer had already contacted me,” says the 43-year-old. “Unfortunately not yet.” Send a BZ request Grönemeyers Management went unanswered.

The music and lyrics of his ballad are still secret.

But a few days ago – on February 27th – the likeable artist a new song released, which addresses his curious action. The title “Dear Herbert (without fear)”. The chorus goes, “Maybe you’ll hear me, I’ve got the whole town covered with it. Herbert, I have your next hit.”
