Salary of healthcare staff

— “Some people think that everyone in healthcare should receive a raise, but I firmly say no to that,” says VU professor and healthcare economist Marcel Canoy. “If you ask healthcare staff where the greatest pain is, you won’t hear anything about money. It’s about work pressure.”

There are periodic discussions in the House and in society about whether or not to increase the salary in care. Some people think that everyone in healthcare should get a raise, but I say no to that. This costs a lot of money and an overall salary increase does not solve the problem. In fact: doctors and nurses earn quite a lot of money compared to the salaries abroad, so they can and should be satisfied. If you ask healthcare staff where the greatest pain is, you don’t hear anything about money. This usually concerns work pressure, the inability to influence rosters and administrative burdens.
