Only 10 percent of the municipalities have a stormwater plan: “Need for vigorous policy, anchored in legislation”

Only 10 percent of Flemish municipalities have a stormwater plan. This is apparent from figures that Green MP Mieke Schauvliege requested from Flemish minister Zuhal Demir (N-VA). Such a rainwater plan includes all initiatives by a local government to reuse rainwater locally or to infiltrate it into the soil. “Developing a stormwater plan is currently a non-binding suggestion for municipalities. As a result, the plan of many municipalities is inadequate,” says Schauvliege.
