One year suspension for Marc Overmars due to inappropriate behavior during Ajax period

Marc Overmars has received a punishment for the transgressive behavior he was guilty of during his time at Ajax. The Sports Jurisdiction Institute decided this today. There is also a conditional suspension of one year, with a probationary period of two years.

The IRS concludes that Overmars was guilty of a number of things during his time at Ajax. During his time as director of football affairs at the Amsterdam football club, he has, among other things dickpicks sent to female colleagues. According to the IRS, he has not complied with the rule that he ‘abstain from sexual intimacies through any means of communication’ and has therefore violated the Sexual Harassment Regulations.

The ruling means that Overmars is not allowed to work at the KNVB or organizations affiliated with the KNVB for a year. This means that he can continue his work in Belgium. Overmars is currently technical director at Royal Antwerp. He started working there a few weeks after his dismissal from Ajax.

“Overmars could have been expected, given his position as statutory director and de facto manager within the Ajax organization, that he would have been aware of the role model he had and that he would have refrained from such behavior, even when he believed that it took place on the basis of reciprocity and voluntariness,” the ISR ruling reads.
