One year of war in Ukraine, and we have also felt it here: historic energy crisis, life much more expensive, U-turn over nuclear power plants

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, now almost a year ago, has also had an impact on us. From an enormous stream of refugees in which at least 53,000 Ukrainians ended up in Belgium, to a historic energy crisis, hoarding behavior in our supermarkets and our lives that became much more expensive. And it also led to what was previously classified as totally unlikely: the lifespan extension of the two youngest nuclear power plants in Belgium and the increase of our defense budget to 2 percent of gross domestic product. An overview of the impact here.
