The musician released 199 of his own songs out of nowhere – without any statement, comment or remark.
Mac DeMarco has released a collection of 199 previously unreleased songs entitled ONE WAYNE G. The material, which is nine and a half hours long, comes from the past five years (2018-2023).
The set is arranged chronologically. The song titles consist of the recording data, only some have additional titles. The multi-instrumentalist, who always works alone on recordings, is known to have a very extensive collection of demos. The surprising release is not accompanied by a statement or similar from the idiosyncratic “Prince of Indie Rock”.
A reason for this could already be found in one Interview 2017 delivered: “Nowadays a lot of people know about my website but haven’t necessarily heard my music, which is very strange”. Let them listen to 199 demos first. He continued: “I get approached on the street more often now, but I’m not Leonardo DiCaprio or anything. I’m just a jerk from Canada.”
ONE WAYNE G follows the instrumental album FIVE EASY HOT DOGS, which was released this January. He plays with this one every summer three shows in New York City, Paris and London.
