One-time signing session Anjet Daanje: ‘I’m not going to do this every day’

According to RTV Noord, there was a long queue of people in the Groningen bookstore, all with one or more books under their arms. Daanje does not write a long message in the books. Just the fan’s name and her own name. No more.

That’s no problem for bookworm Cor Boven from Castricum, who has five thousand books in the cupboard at home. “I like meeting the author, even if it’s just for a minute,” he says. By the way, he hasn’t read anything by Daanje yet. “But if I read the reviews, then it must be good.”

Daanje is amazed by the long line of enthusiasts. “I thought: maybe there is no one, but fortunately there are people,” she tells the Groningen broadcaster. Quite remarkable, for someone who won not only the Libris Literature Prize, but also the Boekenbon Literature Prize with her latest book. A few years ago, that was quite different. Her earlier work went almost unnoticed. “If I had been here a few years ago, no one would have come.”
