One hundred Haarlem residents in solidarity ‘with the people who feel bad after elections’

No slogans and no banners, but standing in a circle for fifteen minutes on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. About a hundred people came to the hastily conceived meeting for solidarity, to connect with each other, just like in Amsterdam, after the historic victory of the PVV. “It is time to show that the Netherlands is for everyone.”

Initiator Marelie van Rongen is director of De Schuur theater and hands out stars to the people who responded to her call. After she woke up this morning, she thought she would like to get together with her fellow citizens.

The day after the elections with a big win for the PVV, she was touched by the sadness of her children and their friends. “A boy hasn’t slept for two nights and a girl was afraid that she would now have to leave the country because of her Moroccan roots.”

Van Rongen thought these concerns went too far. “We must therefore show that this does not belong to the Netherlands.”
