On uninhabited island Robinson Crusoe ‘every day is nice’

The holiday season is just around the corner and where better to spend this time than on a deserted island? You will find such a gem in the Loosdrechtse Plassen. NH radio reporter Sjoerd Hilarius took a look this morning and was enchanted by the magic of the uninhabited island.

Coincidence wants: in North Holland you have such an uninhabited gem. And in the Loosdrechtse Plassen with the name Robinson Crusoe. The uninhabited island has a special story. It is not freely accessible to tourists, but entirely in the hands of the SailWise foundation. They have been leasing the island for about 45 years and people with a disability come by to enjoy a few days of sailing pleasure.

New friends

“What people always say: ‘I leave my disability on a scaffold’.” Everything is possible on the island. For example, a blind person can get on a boat alone without any problems. How that works? “We will then provide a walkie-talkie and ensure that it is safe.”

Marco enjoys everything the island has to offer from Sunday. “Making friends is very fast here. You do everything together. From eating to playing games. You have contact with everyone.”
