THEestablished in 2020 by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of Minister Dario Franceschini, on 25 March it is the National day dedicated to Dante Alighieri. The On Tuesday 2023 therefore falls on a non-random date: the journey that the Supreme Poet narrates in the Divine Comedy began on 25 March 1300. To celebrate it, many initiatives are organized throughout Italy and in the world. In particular, the Committees of the Dante Alighieri Society, spread everywhere, from Florence to Lusaka (Zambia), from Ravenna to Washington DC, make an effort.
On Tuesday 2023, the concert of the Orchestra Milano Strings Academy in Milan
Like the one in Milan, which for Dan Tuesday 2023 is proposing a major cultural event, dedicated to young people (organized in collaboration with the Presidency of the City Council and with the sponsorship of Municipio 1). Appointment Friday 24 March 2023 at 21 in the Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino – Piazza della Scala (free admission subject to availability).
The Milano Strings Academy Orchestra
“He will perform the Milano Strings Academy Orchestra, made up of 30 girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 18», explains Rosantonia Baroni, Councilor of the Dante Alighieri Society – Committee of Milan, expert of the Culture Commission of the Municipality and organizer of Dantedì. Directed by maestro Michelangelo Cagnetta, they will perform pieces by Italian and European composers from the 18th century to today.
Saint Bernard’s prayer to the Madonna
«Not only that», says Baroni: «I involved some Milanese middle and high school students, also to read the Prayer of Saint Bernard to the Madonna of the XXXIII Canto del Paradisothe concluding canto of the Comedy».
A carefully chosen read. Baroni explains: “It is our invitation to young people to read and love Dante: I wanted him to be kind, delicate”. This will be followed by a comment from Vincenzo Amato, Vice President of the Dante Alighieri Society Committee of Milan.
The invitation to read Dante is appropriate every year and probably more every year. «I have the feeling that many do not know about it» says Baroni. «Or perhaps they fail to appreciate it: I was in elementary school when I chose to enroll in the Dante Alighieri Society and I was very proud of my membership cards. I would like our event to arouse curiosity about Dante in the heart of some little boy who, perhaps, had neglected him».

The Dante Alighieri Society, the same mission since 1889
The Dante Alighieri Society, otherwise known Dante, it has in its DNA the diffusion of Dante’s heritage but in general of the Italian language and culture in the world. With this purpose it was founded in 1889 by a group of intellectuals led by Giosu Carducci: «reviving the spiritual ties of compatriots abroad with the mother country and nourishing among foreigners the love and worship of Italian civilization».
There are 81 committees in Italydistributed in almost all provinces: they organize further 130 Italian language and culture coursesattended by more than six thousand foreign students, and promote prize competitions reserved for students and partnered with the Committees operating in other countries.
