Starting this Monday, a jury from the Barcelona Court will judge a man accused of three crimes in the city on January 20, 2020, of which the last victim was the journalist and municipal worker David Caminada, a case in which the Prosecutor’s Office requests a reviewable permanent prison sentence.
The trial begins with the selection of the jury, the preliminary arguments of the parties and the interrogation of the defendant, and is expected to last until July 25.
Three crimes in one hour
The prosecutor’s indictment places the first crime around 3:00 p.m. at the victim’s home, where the defendant allegedly caused her “254 wounds with a knife” until he was killed, then he set the apartment on fire and presumably took the keys to the house and the victim’s motorcycle, as well as jewelry, and fled by climbing down from the balcony to the street.
Around 3:15 p.m., the man approached a neighbor in the portal of another farm and suffocated her with his hands to death. Then she took his wallet, cell phone, glasses, watch and keys. About half an hour later, the man approached a motorist and hit him until he was knocked out of the vehicle, he got on the motorcycle and drove to the entrance of a store, where he entered displaying a knife and tried to rob the premises, but was unsuccessful. against the resistance of the workers.

At around 3:55 p.m., the man went to Plaza San Jaume and boarded a employee of the municipal communication service, David Caminada, trying to take a bag from him while brandishing a bladed weapon. Failing to do so, she stabbed him “at least twice” in the chest, causing Caminada to die two days later. The defendant also injured a co-worker who was with Caminada in the hand and tried to prevent the robbery and assault, and he was subdued and detained at that moment.
The defendant has been in provisional prison since January 20, 2020 and for these events the prosecutor attributes two crimes of murder, one of homicide, one of arson, three robberies, two attempted robberies and one crime of injury.
