On these dates the school holidays in 2022-2023 fall in the middle region

Whether you want to book a holiday in advance or just want to know when your children will be home: it is useful to know the dates on which the school holidays fall in the 2022-2023 school year.

Later in the article you will also find the public holidays on which students are free in the 2022-2023 school year.

School holidays in Zoetermeer 2022-2023 (central region)

  • Autumn break: October 22 to October 30, 2022
  • Christmas break: December 24, 2022 to January 8, 2023
  • Spring Break: February 25 to March 5, 2023
  • May holiday: April 29 to May 7, 2023
  • Summer vacation: July 8 to August 20, 2023

Good to know: the above dates for school holidays are advice dates from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). Schools may deviate from this date, which means that each school in Zoetermeer may have a different start or end date.

Schools can also opt for a two-week May holiday. The OCW advises to do this the week of April 22 to 30 to use. You can see whether this is the case at your child’s school in the school guide or on the website of your school.

Students are also free on these holidays:

  • Christmas falls during the Christmas holidays, on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 December
  • New Year’s Day falls during the Christmas holidays, on Sunday 1 January
  • Easter (Easter and Easter Monday): Sunday 9 and Monday 10 April
  • Royal day: Thursday 27 April
  • Ascension Day: thursday 18 may
  • Pentecost (first and second day of Pentecost): Sunday 28 May and Monday 29 May

This is why school holidays shift every year

To ensure that not everyone has a holiday at the same time, the Netherlands is divided into three regions: north, center and south. This spread should prevent the roads, campsites and amusement parks from becoming overcrowded. To ensure that you can get away with your family or friends from another region, the school holidays overlap by a few weeks.

The summer holidays, autumn holidays and spring holidays are always rotated. For the summer holidays, this is done according to a fixed system: middle – late – late – middle – early – early – and so on. In this way, a region may be the first or last to act twice in a row. This is necessary, because otherwise the school year will suddenly become very short or very long.

Zoetermeer falls in the middle region and is the first to have summer holidays this school year. Next school year (in 2024) this region will be the second to turn.
