What does it mean when a country is red?

A country is red if there are serious security risks. That means you may be in danger of life; traveling to an area with a red color code is strongly discouraged.

Even if a country has green travel advice, rules may apply for the return trip to the Netherlands. There is still a risk of contracting a corona destination. To enable safe travel, a test obligation applies when traveling to the Netherlands. This test requirement also applies to travelers from the EU/Schengen zone, but only if they do not have a vaccination or recovery certificate.

Also, the EU entry ban is still in force for many countries outside the EU. Travelers who do not live in an EU member state are therefore not allowed to travel to the Netherlands, unless they fall under one of the exceptions.

The quarantine obligation ends on February 25, 2022. What about the test obligation?

Travelers coming from very high-risk areas must be in quarantine until 25 February 2022 upon arrival in the Netherlands. This quarantine obligation will expire on 25 February 2022. A test obligation remains for travelers from outside the EU/Schengen. The testing obligation also applies to travelers from the EU/Schengen, but only if they do not have a vaccination or recovery certificate.
