The majority of owners, including the state holding company BAG, refused to discharge the German manager as CEO for the previous year on Friday evening. He left the company in mid-2021.
Seele moved from the management of Wintershall to OMV in 2015. There he had put his faith in investments and business in Russia. In retrospect, OMV supervisory board chairman Mark Garrett described this as a mistake. He pointed out that the company had to write off two billion euros on Russia-related projects in the first quarter of 2022. “You can’t slander what can’t be slandered,” he said.
Seele was also criticized because OMV became a sponsor of the Russian soccer club Zenit St. Petersburg under his leadership and because he promised the head of corporate auditing protection against dismissal. OMV is one of the largest Austrian companies and achieved sales of 35.55 billion euros in 2021.
