Omroep Brabant app scores well with users: ‘Nice to see appreciation’

The app of Omroep Brabant is in tenth place of the best-known and most used news apps in the Netherlands, according to the National News App Monitor 2022. This survey looked at news use among adult Dutch people.

The Omroep Brabant app receives a national rating of 7.7 from users. Only the NOS app scores higher in that area, with a 7.8. Omroep Brabant’s app also scores well when it comes to regional awareness. In Brabant, 85 percent of the people know the Omroep Brabant news app. Only the NOS and Nu.nl apps score better in our own province.

‘Nice to see appreciation’
Renzo Veenstra, editor-in-chief of Omroep Brabant, is delighted with how well the app is with the public. “We all work hard with a dedicated editorial team to provide people from Brabant with news. It is nice to see that this is appreciated.”

According to Veenstra, the intention is to continue with the current line. The editor-in-chief does say that the NOS and Omroep Brabant are looking at how they can collaborate even better and more often in the field of mobile apps. “The research shows that the public is very interested in a news offering that is as complete as possible within one app. We are therefore happy to focus on that by collaborating even more with colleagues from the NOS”, concludes Veenstra.

Other apps
On average, Dutch adults use almost five news apps, the survey shows. NOS and NU.nl are the best-known and most used apps, according to one of the conclusions of the study, but regional news apps, including those of Omroep Brabant, do about as well outside the Randstad. Of the 12.1 million adult Dutch people, 9.3 million open one or more news apps every day.

Young people, the group aged 18 to 24 in this study, use the most news apps. The survey examined 75 news apps among more than 7,000 respondents aged 18 or older. The research was conducted by research agency Newcom in collaboration with software company Pinch.
