The Omikron wave has ensured a record number of cases of incapacity to work.
In February, the cases related to a corona diagnosis increased by 98 percent compared to January, according to an evaluation published by the BKK umbrella organization on Friday.
The number of days absent due to Corona also increased by 88 percent to 773.8 days per 10,000 employees.
According to the information, there was a very sharp increase in both the cases and the days in January compared to December 2021. There can be no talk of “an easing corona situation” among the almost 4.4 million employees insured with a company health insurance fund, explained the BKK umbrella organization.
The Omicron wave hit employees in the automotive industry, in the educational and health professions particularly hard. According to the information, the number of cases of incapacity and days of incapacity to work was far above the national trend.
According to the BKK Federal Association, most corona infections were in the 35 to 44 age group. In this group, the numbers had more than doubled – from 450.6 days absent in January to 925.8 days in February.

Employees in Bavaria were regionally most affected. With 971.2 days of incapacity to work in February, they were reportedly well above the national trend.
In preparation for the coming autumn, every effort should already be made to significantly increase the vaccination rate, explained the BKK Federal Association.
