United States ice hockey players eliminated
08:13 a.m. The United States ice hockey players have not made it past the quarterfinals at the Beijing Olympics. Slovakia was too strong for the American team after shoot-outs, which also missed a place in the last four four years ago. Clément Noël takes Olympic gold in slalom
07:53 o’clock French skier Clément Noël has won the slalom at the Beijing Olympics. Noël was good for the sixth fastest time in the first run and passed all his competitors in his second appearance.
Austrian Johannes Strolz was second at six tenths of a second. The winner of the gold in the combination had been the fastest in the first run. The bronze went to the Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag.
For 24-year-old Noël, it was the biggest success of his career. Four years ago in Pyeongchang, he finished fourth. Noël is sixth this year in the World Cup standings in the technical part. In the previous years he finished second in that classification three times.
Only two more new corona cases
05:02 am Two new cases of the corona virus were reported at the Olympics on Wednesday. It is not about athletes or supervisors, reports the organizing committee.
The two positive cases stem from Tuesday’s round of tests, when again all people in the so-called Olympic ‘super bubble’ must be tested. It concerns a group of approximately 70,000 people.
Since the start of keeping the corona figures around the Games on January 23, the counter now stands at 435 positive cases. All participants in the Games are completely separated from the Chinese population and are tested daily.
Alexander Hall takes gold in slopestyle
04:27 o’clock American freestyle skier Alexander Hall has won a gold medal in slopestyle at the Olympics. In his three runs, his best score was 90.01 points.
Nicholas Goepper, compatriot van Hall, secured the silver with 86.48. Four years ago, the skier also finished second at the Pyeongchang Games and third four years earlier in Sochi. The bronze went to the Swede Jesper Tjader (85.35).
Norwegian Birk Ruud, who won the big air part a week earlier, now had to settle for fifth place.
Thanks to Hall and Goepper, the United States strengthened their third place in the medal standings with eight golds, seven silvers and four bronzes.
