The Dutch team has again climbed a place in the medal table. TeamNL rose to fifth place in the 5000 meters thanks to Irene Schouten’s gold medal. The Netherlands is now on four gold, three silver and a bronze medal. Norway, Germany, Austria and the US are still ahead of TeamNL.
The Netherlands is on four gold medals after six days. That is half the total number of the previous Winter Games in Pyeongchang (2018). Irene Schouten won her second gold medal in the 5000 meters on Thursday. She previously won the 3000 meters in the National Speed Skating Oval. Ireen Wüst and Kjeld Nuis both won the 1500 meters.
TeamNL also won three silver (skater Patrick Roest and Thomas Krol and short track speed skater Suzanne Schulting) and one bronze (skater Antoinette de Jong) medal in China.
At the Pyeongchang Games, the Netherlands achieved eight gold, six silver and six bronze medals. At the most successful Winter Games ever, in Sochi in 2014, the Orange formation collected eight gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals, so 24 in total. Both times, the Netherlands finished fifth in the medal standings.
Shortly before the start of the Games, Chef de mission Carl Verheijen stated the goal of achieving about twenty medals.
How will the Dutch athletes do in China in the coming week? After each medal part, we keep track of the medal table of Beijing 2022 in the ranking below. The medal tally is regularly updated. In the medal standings, the number of gold counts more than the total number of medals.
In the all-time ranking of the Winter Games, the Netherlands is in tenth place after 23 editions with no fewer than 130 medals (45 gold, 44 silver and 41 bronze).
