Olympic Games 2030: Sweden pushes ahead with its Olympic bid

Sweden has taken another step towards bidding for the 2030 Winter Olympics.

The Scandinavian country’s government on Sunday gave the National Olympic Committee the green light to complete the bid dossier, further saying it was “ready to enter the next phase” and “provide the government guarantees necessary for a bid.”

As part of the dossier, the capital Stockholm would be the main venue for the 2030 Winter Games, but competitions would also be held in the well-known winter sports resorts of Falun, Are and Östersund.

In addition, Sweden’s Sports Minister Jakob Forssmed outlined to the TT news agency the possibility of including locations in Latvia and Norway. Sweden has only hosted the Olympics in 1912, when the Summer Games took place in Stockholm.

Only on Tuesday, France’s Olympic Committee (CNOSF) presented plans according to which the 2030 Games could take place in the French Alps and Nice.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to hold the 2030 and 2034 Winter Games twice next year.
