Olympic champion Tabea Kemme demands: “Get out of the DFB”

1. FFC Frankfurt, ten years ago the Champions League winner, was on the verge of bankruptcy – and is now operating under the umbrella of Eintracht Frankfurt. Last season, the SBU was a sensational third.

A successful merger has taken place. But what annoys me: Do you think the players will run into the men at some point? no As for the training ground, it’s no different than before, while the men have their own high-tech centre. The paths don’t cross. Everything seems great on the outside, but internally there are still a lot of doors that are closed to women. I once heard the phrase at Arsenal: “The boys have to concentrate on themselves”. bullshit But such sentences can also be heard in Germany.

Tabea Kemme as an expert: Last season she was heard in the men's Champions League on Prime Video, and in the current European Championship on the BBC, among others.

What measures do you think need to be taken to create an equal, attractive league?

I think it would make a lot of things easier if the women’s Bundesliga came under the umbrella of the DFL and separated itself from the DFB. The “women’s soccer ball” is a product that has a certain value. We want to increase this value so that we can say: “This is a great league”. But that doesn’t work at the moment. We’ve been talking about the same topics for years, how to make the league more attractive. But the DFB just can’t do it. There are people who want it too. But of course they are also dependent on certain decision-makers who have the last word. Therefore my appeal: get out of the DFB.

You sound a little frustrated.

I just realize, especially now that I’m an ex-player, that you have to take things into your own hands to make them better. The sluggish development in recent years has confirmed this to me. You have to look for people who are up for it and intrinsically motivated to change something. Otherwise you can forget it. I feel like tackling things, reflecting – and not making sport dependent on gender. The values that football should live on the pitch are not currently being transferred to the official level at all.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz tweeted before the German EM game against Spain that “women and men should be paid equally”. How did this statement resonate with you?
