Olympic champion Naidangin Tüvshinbajar was sentenced to prison for murder

Naidangiin Tüvshinbajar, who won the Olympic gold in judo, was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Mongolia’s first Olympic champion in history Naidang to Tüvshinbajar38, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for murdering his childhood friend.

Tüvshinbajar won Olympic gold in judo at the 2008 Beijing Games in the 100 kg category. He won silver four years later in London.

The judoka is said to have abused his colleague Erdenebileg Enkhbatin in April 2021 under the influence of alcohol.

Enkhbat died of a brain injury from the abuse. Among other things Inside The Games reported that Tüvshinbajar hit his victim with a heavy object.

According to the Mongolian newspaper Sonin, Tüvshinbajar received his sentence on the second of July. The trial of the case lasted more than a year.

Tüvshinbajar had been the chairman of the Mongolian Olympic Committee at the time of the incident. He resigned soon after the abuse became public.
