This weekend the legendary ski races on the Streif are taking place in Kitzbühel. But before that there was a scandal in a hotel.
Olympic ski champion Matthias Mayer (Austria) triggered a police operation in Kitzbühel on Thursday. The 33-year-old, who has now ended his career and advises the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV), attracted unpleasant attention in the team hotel. Hotel employees then called the police, who temporarily arrested Mayer.
A police spokesman confirmed that a person had “rioted” in a hotel and was subsequently arrested. He did not say who it was. The ÖSV, however, confirmed Mayer’s involvement in a scandal.

Matthias Mayer is one of the most successful ski racers in Austrian history, winning gold medals at three Olympic Games and also celebrating several World Cup victories. At the end of 2022, he surprisingly announced his retirement in the middle of the season.
