Marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge will compete against last year’s winner Guye Adola at the Berlin marathon in September.
“Berlin is the fastest course. Here people can demonstrate their potential and push their limits,” said the 37-year-old Kenyan quoted in a statement from the organizers on Friday.
The two-time Olympic champion set the marathon world record in Berlin in 2018 in 2:01:39 hours. This year, on September 25th, the 42.195 kilometers will be run in the German capital. Kipchoge will not compete at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA, which begin next Friday.

The 31-year-old Ethiopian Adola surprisingly won the Berlin marathon last year in high temperatures in 2:05:45 hours. According to the organizers, this year more than 45,000 runners from around 150 nations are expected.
