New Zealand running icon Sir Murray Halberg has died at the age of 89. This was announced by New Zealand’s Olympic Committee.
Halberg had won gold in the 5000m at the 1960 Rome Olympics when he beat Hans Grodotzki from the joint German team with a long sprint.
After his career, Halberg was characterized by great social commitment.
