Olympic champion goes: Isabel Kerschowski ends her career

After 17 years in the Bundesliga with more than 200 games, soccer player and Olympic champion Isabel Kerschowski will end her career at the end of the season.

The captain of Turbine Potsdam, who won Olympic gold with the German national team in 2016, announced her decision on Sunday after the 2-0 win over SC Sand. “I’ll stop after the season, basically hanging up my shoes where it all began,” said Kerschowski.

The 34-year-old, who started playing football at BSC Marzahn, made her Bundesliga debut in Potsdam in 2005 and returned to Turbine last summer after stints in Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and again in Leverkusen. The defender won seven championships, five times with Potsdam and twice with Wolfsburg. Five cup wins are added, four times with Wolfsburg and once with the turbines. Between 2007 and 2017 she wore the jersey of the German national team 21 times.
