Olympic tennis champion Belinda Bencic has reached the quarter-finals of the lawn tournament in Berlin. The 25-year-old from Switzerland won her round of 16 match against the Russian Anna Kalinskaja 6: 4, 1: 6, 6: 1.
In the round of eight, Bencic now meets the winner of the Russian duel between Ludmilla Samsonova and Weronika Kudermetowa. Bencic, number eight, had defeated German Jule Niemeier in three sets in the first round.
The top seeded Ons Jabeur from Tunisia had previously qualified for the round of eight with a win against American Alycia Parks 6-2, 7-6 (10-8).
