Olympic champion before comeback: “My World Cup dream is alive”

Daniel Huber is about to make a comeback in ski jumping. The Austrian has had a long period of suffering. Now the ÖSV athlete has his sights set on the upcoming World Championships in Planica.

Daniel Huber can finally start again at the upcoming World Cup weekend in Willingen. About three months ago, the Austrian ski jumper had to undergo an operation on his right knee. A cartilage chip necessitated the operation.

In the past few weeks, Huber has been working on his comeback, which is now imminent. “I had hoped that I would be back a little faster. It’s all the more good that I can be there again,” the 30-year-old is quoted as saying by the “Kronen Zeitung”. He was “very happy with how it feels”. And: “In Willingen I’ll see what it’s worth.”

The big highlight of the season in ski jumping is undoubtedly the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica (February 22nd to March 5th). But there is not much time left until the start of the event in the Slovenian winter sports stronghold.

Nevertheless, Huber is still aiming for the necessary qualification. “My World Cup dream is alive. But it won’t be easy, Austria is the strongest team in the world at the moment,” revealed the 2022 team Olympic champion.

Ski jumping: Huber wants to get in top form for the World Cup

However, Huber wants to skip the World Cup event in Lake Placid, USA (February 11th and 12th). Instead, the ÖSV ski jumper wants to get in top form in Europe.

“The strength values are okay again, but there is a bit of a lack of speed. I’ll add another training block,” explained Huber.

Born in Salzburg, he is one of the veterans in the Austrian team. Huber made his debut in the World Cup in 2016. Since then he has had six victories – one individually and five with the team.
