Olympic bobsleigh champion Germeshausen died

The German bobsleigh mourns the multiple Olympic champion Bernhard Germeshausen. According to the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the Thuringian died on Good Friday after a long illness at the age of 70.

As a pusher in Meinhard Nehmer’s sled, Germeshausen won Olympic gold for the former GDR three times – in 1976 in Innsbruck both in twos and fours, and in 1980 in Lake Placid again in fours.

At the Winter Games in the USA, the former decathlete also sat on the ropes himself in a small sled and won silver in the process. Germeshausen’s great successes also include three world championship titles.
