The Beijing Olympics will open on Friday. Most of the athletes have already arrived. There were a few surprises in the Olympic Village.
The Swedish Olympic team still has problems with the sanitary facilities shortly before the start of the Winter Games in Beijing (from Friday). Cross-country skiers and biathletes have found that drains and toilet flushes in China are sometimes not quite as efficient as they are used to at home.
“I was singing in the shower when Maja shouted: ‘The water is running over to the TV!'” reported former world champion Frida Karlsson, who shares a room with Maja Dahlqvist, in the Aftonbladet newspaper. The incident caused quite a stir, she said. “People think we poop in the shower, but we don’t,” she said, laughing.
The toilet flush doesn’t always work well either, she added. Biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson has the same problem. “I noticed that the flushing standard wasn’t what we’re used to,” said the relay Olympic champion, “there were a few minor problems.”
