Olympia 2022: Germany’s stars clear up so hard on Instagram

The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are history, the memories of the great triumphs remain – and are causing the number of followers of the German Olympic heroes to explode on Instagram.

Twelve gold medals, ten silver medals and 13 bronze medals: the German Olympic stars won a total of 27 medals in Beijing.

That was enough for second place in the medal table. Only Norway was better with a total of 37 medals.

Some athletes who were already prominent, such as Natalie Geisenberger or Francesco Friedrich, knew the Olympic medal feeling well enough from the past.

But also some new stars, such as the cross-country heroines around Victoria Carl and Katharina Hennig, rose in the German sports sky in Beijing.

So it’s no wonder that there was a lot going on in the social networks during the games at Geisenberger, Friedrich, Carl, Hennig and Co.

The biggest percentage change was in Gold-Skeletoni Hannah Neise’s channel. Her follower count rose from 2,182 at the start of the Olympics to 6,406 at the end of the competitions in China – a whopping 193.6 percent growth, almost triple!

Daniela Maier (from 2,641 to 6,054) came second with an increase of 129.2 percent (from 2,641 to 6,054). Bob dominator Friedrich completes the podium with 122.4 percent (from 1,069 to 2,377).

Stars from biathlon and ski jumping are the most popular

Comparatively little growth at the games in Beijing, but in absolute terms the top stars from biathlon and ski jumping have the largest number of followers.

Denise Hermann (111,058 followers at the end of the Olympics), Erik Lesser (109,898) and Markus Eisenbichler (106,828) make up the top 3 in this category.

Of course, the athletes do not have a direct advantage from large follower numbers. Indirectly, however, these should certainly help, for example in the search for financially strong sponsors.
