After Giuseppe Sumrain, aka Fat Comedy, suddenly hit Pocher in the face in March 2022, he now has to pay compensation – also because of the damage to his reputation on social media.
Because of physical violence against Oliver Pocher and the subsequent damage to his reputation on the Internet, Fat Comedy, bourgeois Giuseppe Sumrain, has to pay 50,000 euros in compensation. The incident in which 24-year-old Sumrain approached 44-year-old Pocher during a boxing match in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund and hit him in the face with the flat of his hand already happened on March 26, 2022. After that, Sumrain mocked the TV entertainer on social media. Pocher then filed a lawsuit and demanded 100,000 euros – half of which has now been awarded to him by the Frankfurt Regional Court.
However, the civil process does not end there. For one thing, the verdict is appealable, and for another, the self-titled comedian Fat Comedy still faces criminal charges for the September 2023 attack, which could even include time in prison.
In his Instagram story, Sumrain said after the disclosure of the compensation to be paid: “I definitely have to put up with that. But if I think about it, that shouldn’t be a problem. Because I used to spend so much on food in half a year.”
Pocher’s lawyer Patricia Cronemeyer can be quoted in the media as follows: “For our client, Oliver Pocher, the judgment is an absolute success and a bit of compensation. The court was not fooled by the perpetrator.”
In April 2022, after the attack, Sumrain published a ten-minute video message on the Internet to comment on what had happened. In it he talked about the evening in the Dortmund Westfalenhalle and explained that he had not planned the slap in the face, but acted in affect. He also spoke out against violence and emphasized that it would have been better to clarify the matter with words. However, Fat Comedy also criticized Pocher’s behavior and his jokes at the expense of others. In this regard, he said that bullying can have terrible effects on people. As an example, he cited the case of model Kasia Lenhardt, who committed suicide in 2021 due to bullying. He himself was bullied a lot because of his overweight.
