Oliver Kalkofe is annoyed with his broadcaster

In his current show “SchleFaZ” Oliver Kalkofe and his colleague Peter Rütten dissect the “worst films of all time”. Now, after eleven years of broadcasting, it is supposed to end. Tele 5 will cancel the show in the new year. This was announced on September 25th by the media company “Warner Bros. Discovery Germany”. Kalkofe is upset about the decision.

The long-time entertainer doesn’t simply swallow the official reason for the end – they want to concentrate “more on purely fictional film and series content as well as sci-fi”. He is sure that the decision – as is often the case – was made for financial reasons. “Most of it is managed and therefore creativity is prevented. Money was always important on television, today it is the most important thing. That makes me very sad,” said Kalkofe in an interview with the industry magazine “DWDL”.

The presenter, who became known in the mid-90s with the show “Kalkofes Mattscheibe”, also says that the past year at Tele 5 was the most bizarre of his career. “There were – pay attention – zero employees there. Zero. Not a single one from 76,” reveals the comedian. Only “administrators of Excel lists” would be employed to look “where more can be deleted”.

The satirist blames this development on the takeover of “Warner Bros”. Tele 5 is now much more of a “linear streaming service” than a television station. Kalkofe is disappointed and settles accounts with the broadcaster: “As is often the case: they restructure until there is nothing left. In the end, no one had a plan anymore. Zero employees, zero program, zero plan, zero direction.”

The last episode of the current season “SchleFaZ” will air on October 27th. Four more episodes will be broadcast in December before Kalkofe and Rütten review films for the last time in a New Year’s Eve special. But the moderators don’t give up and hope for a new slot. “We have a strong brand plus an incredibly loyal fan base that we bring with us. A show that can undoubtedly be called a ‘cult’ and that is currently extremely successful,” says the entertainer, promoting the show and hoping for it to be taken over by a new station.
