Oliver Kahn jokes about being thrown out

Former CEO Oliver Kahn can now obviously take his dismissal from FC Bayern around four months later with humor.

When asked what surprised him about the German record champions, Kahn answered with a wink during an interview format at the Munich startup conference “Bits & Pretzels”: “The short term in office.”

The 54-year-old sees his image from his time as a professional as one of the reasons for his failure at FC Bayern.

“When you’re anchored in people’s minds as a goalkeeper, it’s hard to do anything different than you did back then. They don’t realize that you’ve developed further and they want the goalkeeper Kahn,” said the 1996 European champion.

After FC Bayern parted ways with him and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic around the last Bundesliga matchday of 2022/2023, Kahn initially withdrew from the public eye.

First appearance in Germany since leaving FC Bayern

Recently he has been more present again, the appearance at “Bits & Pretzels” was his first public appearance in Germany after parting ways with the Munich team.

“One difference from my time as a professional is that I don’t ignore the mental signals and those of my body. When I recognize that I’m exceeding limits, I take a break, no matter what others say,” explained Kahn.

Last week, the former goalkeeping titan completed a much-discussed trip to Saudi Arabia – reportedly including a job offer. There, too, Kahn commented on the exit from FC Bayern.

“If you get to a point in a club where you have different opinions or different ways of thinking, different views on certain issues, development, strategy or leadership and you can’t bring them together, then it’s better for both sides to have their own “To go away,” he said on the TV show “Kora Rotana”.
