Arto Bryggare packages the Zurich Diamond League events.
Oliver Helander remained upright after his fifth-round throw in the Zurich Diamond League. It was a series best of 83.65 meters. With the result, the fourth place of the Thursday night race was released.
– I wouldn’t think about who falls and who doesn’t. Neeraj Chopra won World Cup gold and fell, silver and bronze went to the men who stayed upright. Helander is fit for 83-84 meters, commented Iltalehti’s expert Arto Bryggare.
The five series points from fourth place guarantee that the Finn will compete in the Diamond League’s best six finals in Eugene in mid-September.
Thursday’s race was won by the Czech Republic Jakub Vadlejch with a result of 85.86. It was the seventh number one position in the diamond series of the man’s career.
Vadlejch is the most reliable spearman this season – in the top three in every start of the season and an average score of 86.20.
– He uses Matti Järvinen -style, i.e. there is rotation in the performance. The spear does not come from behind, but from the side. It requires tough physics. That’s what he has, says Bryggare and refers to the 1932 Olympic champion Järvis.
– Jakub is a very modest and hard worker. In June in Turku, the man threw the best result in the world this season (89.51), but since then he has had a small injury, Bryggare adds.
India’s Chopra was second on Thursday (85.71) and Germany’s Julian Weber (85.04) third.
Mr. Sandbox
PASI LEISMA
Thursday’s most exciting race was seen in the sandbox, like the World Cup qualifiers in Budapest. Greek Miltiádis Tentóglou swept from third place to victory in the sixth jumping round with a score of 820. The same happened in Hungary, when the Greek went from second place to first (852).
– The headwind partly explains Thursday’s result level. Tentóglou is a very skilled long jumper who uses the plank brilliantly. One comes to mind from recent history as an equally skilled plank user Ivan Pedroso. The use of his free leg was also fantastic, Bryggare estimated.
The Greek is an Olympic champion, world champion and European champion.
– He is not a sprinter who jumps long, but a long jumper. A very light guy with optimal speed. He is an excellent competitor.
Domination
PASI LEISMA
Shericka Jackson dominates the women’s 200m sprint. Zurich won with a time of 21.82.
– She is already one of the all-time female sprinters, even though she has been overshadowed by two other top Jamaican names in recent years.
Jackson has last lost in his bread sport in May 2022 in the Doha Diamond League, when Gabrielle Thomas was better (21.98–22.07).
Champions in trouble
UN
There were a few surprises in Zurich.
The silver medalist who jumped more than six meters from the pole in the World Cup final John Obiena remained in the clock country with a result of 560.
– The Filipino man’s technique is terribly sensitive. There was no wind in Budapest, I understand there was in Zurich.
Armand Duplantis won with a result of six meters.
Karsten Warholm (47.30) bent in the 400m hurdles in Australia To Kyron McMaster (47,27).
– McMaster’s victory is not a surprise. He is on the rise, but despite his World Championship silver, he was not quite successful in Budapest. Karsten once again had such a strong charge in the value races that it will take some time to collect the same again.
World Cup gold medalist in high jump Marco Tamberi softened to a result of 228. In Hungary it was 236. It was close to victory in Switzerland Mutaz Essa Barshim (235). The Qatari was in Hungary with a World Championship bronze with a score of 233.
– Tamber’s World Cup gold was a small miracle considering the condition he has been in this season. Now the man couldn’t take it anymore.
