Oliver Bierhoff sees “still work”

Halfway through the Nations League four-pack, Oliver Bierhoff drew a positive interim conclusion with minor restrictions, even without a win.

“The balance sheet looks very positive, even if we expected more. We are on the right track, the direction is right,” said the managing director of the national teams and academy on Thursday in Herzogenaurach. But there is “still work to be done”.

After the draws in Italy and against England (both 1-1), the third game is on Saturday (8:45 p.m. / RTL) in Budapest against Hungary.

The four-pack will conclude with the second leg against Italy in Mönchengladbach (June 14).

“The clear goal is to get three points against Hungary. That’s our goal. We have high ambitions,” said Bierhoff.

The goal is to win the group and qualify for the Final Four next year, “because we only have friendlies in 2023,” said Bierhoff: “Two competitive games would do the team good.”

As hosts, the DFB selection is qualified for the EM 2024 and does not have to play any qualifying games.
