The Portuguese Miguel Oliveira won the Indonesian GP, the second race of the season, ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco. The race, in which Marc Márquez could not be present, started late due to the storm that fell on Mandalika.
THE SMARTEST IN THE CLASS
When the conditions of the track are terrible due to adverse weather conditions, it is not decisive to be the best rider or to have the best bike. That’s when confidence, self-confidence and touch with the bike and the track make the difference. Miguel Oliveira achieved his fourth victory in MotoGP with enormous superiority, showing that he has a special feeling when the track is bad, with little grip.
The water makes the conditions delicate, forcing you to drive with tact, being soft and avoiding curbs, white paint and puddles, so in Mandalika the Portuguese was the most intelligent, the smartest in the class and gave him to KTM a victory as unexpected as deserved, dominating from start to finish. I also want to highlight the extraordinary atmosphere that has been experienced in a circuit that was making its debut in the World Cupin a country that has recovered the great prizes 25 years later and that is where the most motorcycles in the world are sold.
QUARTARARO IS VINDICATED
The world champion, who had dominated the entire weekend, saw the world come crashing down with a strong storm shortly before the start of the race, which was delayed an hour and a quarter. Fabio was choking in the rain and his races in water had been lousy before. After the poor initial result in Qatar, where he could only be ninth, he had to score points and the conditions did not invite him to be optimistic.
He started from pole, but was quickly losing positions. Indonesia, however, will mean a before and after for the French. After the initial precautions, he adapted to the terrain and the conditions, without mistakes, increasing his pace and recovering to a second position that tasted like victory. Quartararo has lifted a weight off his shoulders, a capital one and Yamaha, too. The Japanese manufacturer has shown to have corrected the set-up problems that they suffered in Losail.
MÁRQUEZ: 4 FALLS IN THE WEEKEND!
This morning Marc suffered a chilling crash at 190 kilometers per hour with two minutes to go before the end of the warm-up, the last training session before the race. A strong head injury, which left him very dazed, motivated the pilot, advised by the doctors and his own team, to throw in the towel and decide not to race.
Márquez will not easily forget this great prize, in which he has accumulated four spectacular falls and has set off all the alarms after his performances in Qatar already marked him as one of the favorites for the title. Things change quickly, but the Catalan now has no choice but to rest, recover and hope that things will go better in the next race. On the positive side, it should be noted that he did not suffer any fracture and that he will be able to be at his best in the next race.
