Olhaco finally knows what winning is again

VOLLEYBALL – For the first time since the cup match on October 23, Olhaco has won a match. The last player managed to win at home with 3-2 against Huizen, the number 9 in the top division. In an exciting match, Olhaco showed character and the set positions were 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 27-25 and 15-5.

Olhaco’s game has already shown an upward trend in recent weeks. This just didn’t pay off in results, until today. Menno Volkerink’s team managed to turn around a 2-1 deficit.

Fourth set was decisive

The match was one to frame for Olhaco. The team showed in this match that it is a formidable opponent in the top division, with Alwin Heer as the star today. The fourth set was decisive for the result. Olhaco lost a 21-18 and 24-21 lead, but still managed to win the fourth set. “As a result, something snapped at the opponent from Huizen,” says trainer Menno Volkerink. In the last set Olhaco received little resistance (15-5), as a result of which a match was won in the competition for the first time since the first round on September 18.

Relaxed atmosphere at the Hoogeveners

The poor results in the competition have not affected the atmosphere within the team. “The boys joked in the fifth set that I finally don’t have to sleep in the attic tonight,” says Volkerink. The coach was happy that the penny finally went in the right direction, after the rising level of the past few weeks.
