Oleg Luzhny suspends coaching career to fight in Ukraine

Former Ukraine and Arsenal defender Oleg Luzhny told Sky Sports via WhatsApp message that he is suspending his coaching career to fight for his country, which is under attack by the Russian government.

“I want to coach in the UK, but above all I will stand up and fight for my people, my country and democracy,” Luzhny said.

Oleg Luzhny told Skysport: “The situation is dire, I want to coach in the UK but above all I will stand up and fight for my people, my country and for democracy. We all hope this ends as innocent lives are lost and families are torn apart. When a country is invaded, I will fight for democracy. “We must stand united and put an end to this murderous war,” he said.

Luzhny was planning to return to England to continue his 8-year coaching career. In his playing career, Luzhny won eight league titles with Dynamo Kyiv in the Soviet Union before Ukraine’s declaration of independence in 1991.
