Old traditions revived during a slip hunt on the Mensighe estate in Roden

Lots of dogs, riders and amazons in full uniform on imposing horses and hunting horns. The grounds of the Mensinge estate were the setting for a slip hunt on Saturday.

The members of the hunting association Soestdijk rode a course in the vicinity of Roden. During the slip hunt, the slip tractor runs ahead of the crowd with a rag soaked in fox urine. The trained and disciplined hunting dogs, black and tan Kerry Beagles, follow that trail – chased by the horsemen.

In the past, foxes and other game were hunted, nowadays the reward for the riders is a drink. The dogs received a reward in the form of cow tripe back at the estate.
