More participants, what organization doesn’t want that? This does not apply to the Ruinerwold Oldtimer Festival, which will be held for the 29th time on Saturday. The event is reaching its limits. “That is why we are considering setting a limit for the number of participants,” says chairman Edwin Weide.
The event was already popular before corona, with more than 1,400 participants. After corona it got even busier last year. Weide: “We thought that was an exception. But the pre-registrations are shooting through the roof this year. We are already at 1,500 participating vehicles. Moreover, there are always several hundred registrations on the day itself.”
Cars, tractors, motorcycles, but also solexes, trucks and a single bicycle. The range of oldies is wide every year. They come from all over the Netherlands and even from Germany. “We are now at the point where we ask ourselves: can the village still cope with this? Does it all fit on our site and how is it going with the tour? Usually sixty to seventy percent also participate in this. But it must be safe , also for other road users.”
How will the organization tackle this tidal wave of old-timers from next year? Meadow doesn’t know yet. “This year we are not making any adjustments yet. But we will evaluate in September and then we will see.”
