Old bomber from World War II still makes memorial flight over Texel

It was exciting for a while: but this afternoon a Lancaster bomber from the Second World War actually flew over Texel. Initially, the aircraft had to remain grounded due to maintenance. The English bomber is flying a lot this week: it will also fly during the coronation of Prince Charles this Saturday.

Well hoped, not thought: that must have been the idea of the organization behind the so-called ‘flypast’, when they were told this morning at the very last minute that the memorial flight with an English bomber was still going ahead. Because the aircraft may have had technical problems, a crossing would be too dangerous.

Coronation King Charles

Although, that was the official excuse. Many believe that the presence of the English bomber at King Charles’s coronation this Saturday was the original reason why it was so long grounded.

Because the Lancaster will be deployed there this Saturday, the flight path here deviated from previous years. For example, it would only fly over Nieuwe Niedorp and Bergen, so that ten other villages were skipped this year. Likewise Texas.

Nevertheless, the redeeming word came this morning that the Lancaster aircraft would also fly above Texel. The aircraft is one of the last two World War II bombers still flying in the world.
